Insightful Words About Creating Personal Change

From one of my favorite bloggers, Yaro Starak and his Blogging To Awareness posts: a discussion of creating personal change, pursuing your goals and taking charge of your life if you have the courage to do so. These words stuck with me this evening:

"Once you gain the power by becoming self aware of your own voice inside your head and how you perceive the world around you, half the battle is won. You are in control and that will always be the case no matter what happens to you or your environment.

Creating positive change in your life begins with how you interpret life itself. If you want things to change for the better, the first step is to make the choice to see the world in a way that is beneficial, on the inside. The outside world is always open to interpretation, and you will never know the real truth, so why not create perceptions that help you?

The key take away from this article is self awareness is the first step towards creating the change you want, in fact, it is all you ever need if you really drill down to it. You are the master of your own universe."

Zoning In

I'm currently reading Timothy Ferris' book, "The Four Hour Workweek". It's fabulous! One point mentioned that I read today I thought I would share. Most of us are good at one or two things, and pretty bad at everything else. We know what we're good at. We also often try hard to improve on the things we're not good at. A procrastinator tries to adhere to a planned, regular work schedule; a runner tries to also excel at swimming; a shy person tries to stand up for herself when criticized. Trying to improve upon the things we're bad at isn't productive. 9 times out of 10, you'll only become mediocre at it at best. However, if you aim to improve upon the things you know you're good at, you'll excel and make yourself stand out among others as you become known for it. You'll also find it easier to improve because you're already talented with it. You'll enjoy it more because it's something that comes to you naturally and your confidence will build quickly.

A great tip with a non-conventional twist. Do what you're good at; don't waste time trying to do what you're not.
