Smell the Roses (or Watch the Fish)
This morning I met my long time friend, Gerry, out at Maho Beach for a swim over to a nearby beach, Francis Bay. Gerry and I used to meet religiously once a week to swim on the North Shore about 1 1/2 years ago. Then with the season change, the waters grew cold, schedules filled up and we just stopped doing it. Now starting back again, it's such a strong reminder to me as to how much I overlook on a daily basis. How often do we get caught up in our routines that we don't stop to take time to go to a local attraction or tourist spot, meet with friends or family at a nearby park, etc...simply enjoying what is surrounding us every day? Coming from the country and mountains of WV, now living here on St. John, I am grateful to live around such amazing places. But I can go months without going to enjoy the North Shore beaches! When I do take time again to enjoy local things, I feel refreshed and blessed to be in such a place. Remembering to stop and enjoy what's around you--whether its people, places or things--isn't always easy but worth it when you do.
