8 Tuff Miles
We did it! My mom and I both completed the 8 Tuff Miles road race, one of the hardest 8-mile road races that I know of in North America. I am so proud of my mother who was such a trooper, signing up to do it and then pacing herself to walk the whole hting. It's no small feat--you rise in elevation from 0 ft. above sea level to around 1500 ft. and then all the way back down again. The hills are STEEP and long. They are tough to get up and also very tough to get down--especially when there's been a bit of light rain, as was the case yesterday. But the rain also helped to keep it nice and cool. It was a lovely day with 726 finishers. Each year it seems to gain momentum. Peter Alter, a local St. Johnian, has been getting it together for 12 years. Each year he adds more to it to make it as cool as any other well-choreographed and organized race. Congrats to all who completed it and I'm looking forward to next year! I upheld my title of "fastest female from St. John", coming in as the first local female and the 6th female overall. Not bad!
